Biography

Richard Thompson grew up in the Starr area of Anderson County where his dad's family has lived since 1840. As a child he spent his summers in Greenwood , S.C. at his maternal grandparent's farm. He graduated from Crescent High School in 1972 and Erskine College Cum Laude in 1976. He was awarded the American Legion medal at Erskine in 1976. He graduated from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1979. During law school and after graduation he worked with Columbia attorney J. Marvin Mullis until April 1980 when he began employment at Harold R. Lowery and Associates in Anderson and worked at the Lowery Law Firm until January 1998 when he resigned from the firm to begin a separate practice with Robert B. King, Jr.

Richard and his wife Joyce have been married since November 1, 1980 and have 2 adult children. Joyce is a retired school teacher, avid quilter, and church organist.

Richard presently serves as church organist at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Hartwell, Ga. where he is a member.
